I have found a particular interest in the theatrics of the footballer’s dive, drawing a focus to the figure and the body in motion. My work aims to be thought provoking, one motivation is to start up a conversation about something that an audience wouldn’t necessarily think about in the day to day. As a multi-disciplinary artist, I work on impulse, creating with whatever material feels right for me and the subject. Ideas usually transpire through finding unusual or absurd elements within the human condition that I can create from and amuse myself with.
I aim to make hand sewn sculptures that parody the hyper-masculine ideals that professional football players represent. As a woman, using material known as woman’s craft, I hope to contrast the typical portrayal of the superior male figure through my use of playful fabrics. I use felt and recycled material to create the floppy, cylindrical shapes of the abstract figures that I am depicting.
I have been selected to be part of the Fronteer Gallery's Summer Soltice Exhibtion running from 22nd June 2021 – 3rd July 2021. Visit https://www.fronteer.co.uk/ for more information.
