From demolition and ‘blank slate-thinking’ to building deconstruction and reuse

In Unit 3, students considered the entire life cycle of existing buildings with the goal to create architectural proposals that are made of sustainable, reconditioned or repurposed building components and materials. Working with existing buildings that have recently been granted permission for complete demolition by The City of Edinburgh Council, challenging those decisions, students were tasked to survey, repair and adapt existing structures, components and materials, turning them into high-quality buildings that are functional, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing.
