Salvaging Salvesen 'a whale of a time'
Unit 1 explored how a tectonic language of architecture could emerge from and respond to the varying conditions on the waterfront of three cities. Existing characteristics included natural wilderness, seaside leisure, waste processing, industry, railways, historic brickworks, fishing, shipbuilding and military defences.
Students sought out points of tension and moments of opportunism through Mapping | Recording | Walking the edge. The choice of sites and briefs were individual responses to the early research. As well as physical edges, projects documented a tapestry of social & cultural edges.
