What is the nature of insularity in extreme environments? How do climate, economy, culture, politics and art inform the architectural language of a place? Chimeric buildings: a merchant’s house, mosque-cathedral, palace-museum and railway station-oyster bar offer strange beginnings for an architectural inquiry in detail. Operating across the scales and in constant dialogue with the parterre, Island Temporalities imagines an architecture in place, aware of the present uncertainty, willing to navigate the material, structural, social, environmental and political actors at work in the new world.
