It is important to me that I enjoy myself when making jewellery. As a result, in the short amount of time I have been working in the medium, I have developed a distinct aesthetic language which reflects my sensibilities. Repetitive and meticulous techniques that require intense periods of focus appeal to me because they allow me to study material and make a number of small decisions in the process.
This year I have been researching and working with beading techniques in order to adorn my jewellery as well as translating images into beaded compositions. Much like other traditional textile techniques, each bead requires a series of hand movements and, as such comes to represent visually the time and labour invested in the work. Recently I have been translating an image into glass beads. The space between the original and the beaded image and my interpretation of colour and form is where my interest lies.
