During my time studying Animation at Edinburgh University, I have experimented with pencil to paper animation, 2D digital animation, 3D animation and stop motion animation. However, I found I enjoyed 2D and 3D animation most and therefore these are the mediums I now predominantly work in. Therefore, in my most recent project Fly, I combined elements of both 2D and 3D animation using Maya and Photoshop. The film explores some surreal imagery and was influenced by artist such as Shuichi Nakano and Shaun Tan, who both experiment with nature and surrealism. With every project I create, I find new sources of inspiration and this has allowed me to practice different techniques, styles and methods for my animations and has helped me develop a diverse skillset.
This is the teaser trailer for Sam's graduate animated short film called Fly. The film follows young protagonist Neo who wants to run around and play, but is confined to a single room. However, a simple house fly triggers a sudden change in location and begins leading Neo on a journey through vast and surreal environments.
