Thus,the Advanced Sustainable Prroject:  Recreation of Landscape of Shawfair is reaching an overall review of the area and recreating the concept of the landscape design under the consideration of the climate emergency.
After collecting data for the existing landscape, built environment and the wellbeing of the residents of the area, movement seems to be the initial point where the project starts to evolute. Designing a collection of paths and pedestrian routes connecting with the city of Edinburgh and other key locations in order to enhance the idea of the alternative accessibility and create a statement of the new Shawfair. These paths and routes are not just an answer to movement/transportation problems, but also a fundamental element of an utopian vision. Across the main route activity hubs are installed each one of them with different function: education, art, children’s activities, agriculture and biodiversity. Making, thus, the journey and experience on its own.Creating in this way infrastructures that will face the today’s social problems as well as the climates emergency’s ones. Finding ways to recreate the landscape in order to invite people and facilitate activities and in the same time the selection of materials has to be judged by their low carbon and recycled properties .Every urban furniture and material that will be used have an important role to the adaptation to the climate emergency (drainage system, low embodied energy, recycle, etc.) In conclusion, sustainable design is a mix of vision, adaptation and measurements. In order to be successful all of them should be included. The vision with utopian images can represent the feeling of the space, the adaptation on how this vision is taken place and finally with the measurements to prove up to a level if our theory was correct. In the end all should be included in order to allow a full image of the Shawfair to emerge .In this case the embodied energy of the entire idea will be measured as well as the water consumption and possibly the energy use from the lighting installation.
